Keep quiet

Whatever thought comes,
whatever it is,
even the thought of meditation: stop.

Discover the source of these thoughts:
“I have to meditate,
I have to be free,
I need freedom”.

Keep quiet and wait.

Find out from where these thoughts are coming.

Return back to the source of these same thoughts
and tell me
what you see.

What do you call this?
Where will it lead you?

It will strike at your mind forever and
you will become what you have always been.

You will not find this
through any method,
don’t be deceived once again
by your mind.

You are here to be free,
in this very instant,
without doing anything,
without even stirring a single thought.

That’s why you are here.

I don’t tell you to go to the Himalayas,
or to the caves or to the forest.

I have seen many people
with head hanging down, doing penance,

I have seen many in the higher altitudes of the
Himalayas:
they did not discover freedom.

It is here and now.

What is there to think about this?

Even without thinking,
you are That.

The habit of thinking,
of doing something,
is your only impediment.

Give at least one second to yourself,
without doing anything,
without even thinking.

Do not make any kind of effort,
and see the result.

The Maharshi’s eyes

When I was at Ramanasramam in the 1940s I used to spend hours looking at the Maharshi’s eyes. They would be open and staring, but not focused on anything. Though his eyes were open, they were not seeing anything. Those eyes were completely free of thoughts and desires. The mind is revealed very clearly in the eyes, but in those eyes there was nothing at all to see. In all the hours that I concentrated on those eyes I didn’t once even see a flicker of a thought or a desire. I have not seen utterly desireless eyes like his on any other face. I have seen many great saints during my life, but no one has impressed me as much as the Maharshi did. If you want freedom, find a man like this who has absolutely no desire, someone who sits unmoving like a mountain. Sit in his presence and see what happens.

Anything which you have concealed the nature of your own Self has to be discovered

Do what you have to do. Anything with which you have camouflaged or concealed the original ultimate nature of your own Self has to be discovered, uncovered, or revealed.

It has to reveal itself by itself — not by any effort. Not by any effort.

Don’t think about anything of the past, present and future. No thought and no effort. That is the requirement. This gem doesn’t need your candle to be seen. It has its own luster, self-effulgent. You will not see the sun with the light of your candle but through the sun’s own rays. Who needs a candle to see the sun? No candle is needed because the sun has the luster of light itself. So you don’t need any effort to see anything which is light.

Surrender,
let Silence have you.

Surrender to the source,
Surrender to awareness,
this is the only place of protection.

Surrender your heart and you will know all. Surrender to Consciousness and Bliss.

Surrender means to surrender your bondage and to simply be Freedom.
